Bullock Texas State History Museum: A History-Telling Place

In 1885, cattleman Jesse Chisholm sold his herd and drove them from Texas to Montana. Along the way, he stopped in the town of Austin to rest and resupply. He liked the area so much that he decided to stay, and the following year he built a store on what is now Congress Avenue. More can be found here.

The store became a popular meeting place for local ranchers and cowboys. They would come to town to buy supplies and catch up on the latest news. Chisholm became known as the "Father of Austin" because of his role in the city's development. In 1892, the state of Texas decided to build a new state Capitol building in Austin. This helped to boost the city's economy and population. By 1900, Austin was the largest city in Texas, with over 30,000. In 1911, the state of Texas opened the Bullock Texas State History Museum. The museum is named after its founder, Colonel Austin Bullock. Colonel Bullock was a pioneer in the Texas cattle industry and a prominent Austin citizen. The Bullock Museum is dedicated to telling the story of Texas history. It has three floors of exhibits that showcase the state's rich history. The museum has a research library, an IMAX theater, and a gift shop. The Bullock Museum is a great place to learn about the history of Texas. It is also a great place to spend a day in Austin.
