BTS with Hike: OPEN WATER
Our collaboration with Open Water, a Chicago-based, women-owned brand (just like us!) is one of our faves. Open Water offers an eco-conscious alternative to plastic bottled water in the form of Climate Neutral Certified canned water. To celebrate the Open Water mission, our video production agency developed a series of product videos for social to show off all that the brand has to offer. One of the first shots in the main video features all of the products in a sea of plastic. The camera pushes through the plastic to reveal an Open Water can. We used a probe lens to dive into the plastic and create the effect of moving among and past it. The solid color seamless backdrop and the plexiglass table surface ensured that attention would be focused on the product.
For the product plunging shots, we filled a large fish tank with water and dropped the cans in to create a vibrant splash. We captured the footage at a high frame rate to enable slow motion playback to really make those bubbles pop.
Many of the remaining shots relied on a smooth turntable to rotate the product. We captured the detail of the can’s branding while we spray-misted the product to communicate its crisp, refreshing taste.
To get our finished videos, we played around in the editing room, toying with split screens, running footage in reverse, and syncing visuals with fun, energetic music. Overall, we sought to show off Open Water’s commitment to sustainability while capturing their brand’s high energy feel.
With this footage we crafted a series of videos for social, one per product, as well as a main cut that incorporated all three of the brand’s key products. The main cut won a silver Davey Award, which our team celebrated by cheersing with cans of Open Water.
